JUPITER, Fla. • A few hours after manager Mike Matheny said that center fielder Tommy Pham would have to make the most of every opportunity he got this spring, the prospect did just that.
Pham had four hits in four at-bats to help the Cardinals to a 5-2 victory Friday at Roger Dean Stadium. His third hit sparked a four-run rally in the sixth inning that that Cardinals’ relievers held onto for the second win in as many spring games.
Pham is the first Cardinals player to have four hits in a spring game since Oscar Taveras did in March 2013 against the Twins. Taveras went four-for-five at Minnesota’s ballpark in Fort Myers, Fla.
