A week removed from a 3-1 win over Columbus Crew SC, Lee Nguyen defeated FC Dallas forward Maxi Urruti to win MLS Goal of the Week.
Nguyen’s strike arrived on the end of a broken Chris Tierney cross. After trapping a weak clearance with his chest, Nguyen ripped a volley past a sprawling Steve Clark and into the upper left corner of the net. The goal was Nguyen’s 5th of the season.
Urruti’s goal followed a similar passage of play. A far-post shot—put dangerously across the goal mouth—was poorly cleared, and Urruti had all the space he needed to put a bicycle-kick finish past David Bingham.
